Maya Lesson 1: Your first 3d model, Simple Chair

First you have to register yourself

Let’s Start with an empty scene.
Create a new cube for the seat.
For a better look choose as shading mode “smooth shade all” instead of “wireframe”
Spin the view holding the Alt key and dragging with the left mouse button
Click the box to select it
Reposition the seat with the move tool. To move the object up or down click and drag the green arrow.
For the legs we use cylinders. Use the red and blue arrows to move the legs in the appropriate positions
Press the spacebar to change the one panel layout with the 4 panels layout.
We change the working panel for better object positioning and scaling
Press again the spacebar with the mouse inside a panel and that panel will be maximized
Hold the Alt Key and drag with the middle mouse button to pan the view
Scale the legs from the top view.
Select the Scale Tool
Click and drag on the middle coloured square for resizing in the both directions , simultaneously
Select the Move Tool, click and drag on the middle coloured square for moving in the same time in both directions
Use the spacebar to change the layout back to the initial one
Resize the legs
Spacebar twice for the Right View
Pan the view with Alt key and middle mouse button
Apply materials to objects
Click Right mouse button on the seat and drag on “Assign New Material”
Select “Blinn” or “Lambert” , simple to use materials
Click on the color and choose a color for the seat
Click Right mouse button on the legs and drag on “Assign New Material”
Make the legs transparent changing the transparency of the material

We want to publish to the web the image of the chair so we have to “render” the scene.
Press the button “Render the current frame”
Press the Alt key and drag the right mouse button to zoom the view.
Alt key and middle mouse button to pan.
Save the image as Jpeg file.
